When Bestlethrone is attacked, Felan flees to save his father’s kingdom against known forces and the gods who may be moving against them.  However, the gods are something far different than Felan understands.  In desperation Felan turns to his best friend, Melinda and the elite rangers they created.  Together they search for a secret cave where a message from the gods awaits them.  They find the cave, but Felan is betrayed and left for dead.  Miraculously, Felan survives.  He knows he must somehow save his family and in doing will come face to face with Melinda and the full truth of her betrayal.

Unbeknownst to Felan his fate is intertwined with Sandra Ferrara, a 13-year old girl growing up in the space colony located above the planet Tera 4.  At the center of the space colony is Society, a real-life game of Civilization, started centuries ago where people seek to influence the development of the medieval culture on Tera 4.  When her brother betrays the family to prop up himself, he jeopardizes the existence of his family’s oldest and most prized Society interest.  Sandra is given what is left of that interest and vows to find a way to save it and in the process, save Felan.

Meanwhile, Dash Cricken, a retired general, has come to the Tera 4 space colony to try to shut down Society.  While there he encounters Sandra.  As Dash tries to use Sandra to stop Society, Sandra obsesses over protecting Felan and what is left of her family’s interest.  It becomes clear to Sandra that her only hope to protect their interest is to find some secret, long forgotten, failsafe her family created and use it to destroy everyone involved in the conspiracy against them.  But time is running out and the cost may be too high.
